Hip Pain

You have indicated the following: you are at least 55 years old, have hip pain as well as pain in other joints, there is pain when pressing over the hip area, and symptoms did not begin suddenly.

Based on your answers, some of the most likely causes of your hip pain include

  • bursitis

  • tendonitis

  • degenerative joint disease (also called osteoarthritis)

  • fibromyalgia¬†or

  • polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR).

Another arthritic disease, such as rheumatoid arthritis is also possible, especially if there is swelling in your joints.

While over-the-counter pain medicines, rest and ice may be helpful, it is important that you see a physician to evaluate these symptoms.
