The National Heart Lung and Blood Institute says triggers may include:
- Being under emotional stress.
- Being exposed to extreme hot or cold temperatures.
- Eating a heavy meal.
- Smoking tobacco or using cocaine.
- Taking medication that narrows blood vessels.
