Health Tip: Living With Psoriasis

-- Psoriasis is a skin condition that occurs when immature skin cells rise too quickly above the surface of the skin. This leads to symptoms including patches of thick, red skin that itch or feel sore.

The National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases describes how psoriasis can impact a person's quality of life:

  • It can cause pain and discomfort, and in some cases, disability.
  • It can interfere with simple tasks such as sleeping, walking and taking care of yourself.
  • It can lead to emotional problems, including lack of self-confidence.
  • If psychological distress is serious enough, it can trigger self-isolation and depression.
