BRIEF: Eli Lilly Will Shed 170 Jobs In Manufacturing, quality control [The Indianapolis Star]
From Indianapolis Star (IN) (July 13, 2010)
July 13--INDIANAPOLIS -- Eli Lilly and Co. plans to cut 170 manufacturing and quality-control jobs this year, most of them in Indianapolis, as part of its ongoing downsizing efforts. The drug maker said Monday the cuts will come through a combination of layoffs and voluntary departures. Lilly will offer voluntary terminations to 950 of about 3,600 U.S. manufacturing employees. Voluntary departures could open jobs for those placed on layoffs.
The cuts are part of a large-scale downsizing announced last year to reduce the headcount by about 5,500 jobs and save $1 billion by the end of 2011. Indianapolis-based Lilly plans an update on the job cuts when it reports second-quarter earnings July 22. (Star report)
