Chemical Name

A secreted protein known previously as immune interferon, that is produced according to the information coded by a specis of interferon gene.Sub-species of human gamma gene produce protein variants designated by the hyphenated addition of a number, e.g. interferon gamma-1a. The numbers conform with the recommendations of the interferon Nomenclature Committee.In the case of interferon gamma-1it is necessary to qualify the number by a letter depending on the nature of the termini X and Y at positions 1 and 139 in the protein chain.
