pyrimethamine sodium bicarbonate
Applies to: pyrimethamine / sulfadoxine, citric acid/sodium bicarbonate
ADJUST DOSING INTERVAL: The concomitant administration of antacids or absorbent antidiarrheals may significantly reduce the bioavailability of pyrimethamine by reducing its absorption. Therapeutic failure may result.
MANAGEMENT: Antacids and antidiarrheals should be taken at least 2 to 3 hours apart from pyrimethamine.

pyrimethamine sulfadoxine
Applies to: pyrimethamine / sulfadoxine, pyrimethamine / sulfadoxine
MONITOR: Coadministration of pyrimethamine in doses exceeding 25 mg per week with trimethoprim or sulfonamides may increase the risk of megaloblastic anemia and pancytopenia. The proposed mechanism is additive antifolate effects.
MANAGEMENT: Periodic clinical and laboratory monitoring for signs of folic acid deficiency and hematologic changes is advisable.
