Reason for the Shortage

  • Hospira had their product on shortage due to raw material supplier issues. Hospira has discontinued all Pentothal syringes and Combo Packs.
  • Hospira has discontinued thiopental. The company had planned to manufacture thiopental at their plant in Italy. However, Italian officials will not allow the product’s release out of the country if it could potentially be used for lethal injections.
