Edit list (add/remove drugs)

Interactions between your drugs

Moderate

dicloxacillin guar gum

Applies to: Pathocil (dicloxacillin) and NutriSource (guar gum)

Talk to your doctor before using guar gum together with dicloxacillin. Products containing guar gum can interfere with the absorption of dicloxacillin when it is taken orally. Your doctor may be able to prescribe alternatives that do not interact, or you may need to separate the dosing times of each medication by as much as possible. Contact your doctor if your infection worsens. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

Drug and food interactions

Moderate

dicloxacillin food

Applies to: Pathocil (dicloxacillin)

You may experience reduced absorption of dicloxacillin in the presence of food. The effectiveness of the antibiotic may be reduced. Dicloxacillin should be administered one hour before or two hours after meals. This will make it easier for your body to absorb the medication. Penicillin V and amoxicillin are not affected by food and may be given without regard to meals.

Moderate

guar gum food

Applies to: NutriSource (guar gum)

Guar gum may interact with other medications if given at the same time. This can cause your other medications to become less effective. In general, all oral medications should be administered at least 2 hours before or 2 hours after dosing of guar gum. Take guar gum with a full glass (at least 8 ounces) of cool water or another liquid. Taking guar gum without enough liquid may cause it to swell in the throat and cause choking.
