Drug Interactions between erlotinib and Votrient
This report displays the potential drug interactions for the following 2 drugs:
- erlotinib
- Votrient (pazopanib)
Interactions between your drugs
erlotinib PAZOPanib
Applies to: erlotinib and Votrient (pazopanib)
Using erlotinib together with PAZOPanib may increase the risk of gastrointestinal perforation, a potentially fatal condition and medical emergency where a hole forms all the way through the stomach or intestine. Talk to your doctor if you have any questions or concerns. Your doctor may be able to prescribe alternatives that do not interact, or you may need a dose adjustment or more frequent monitoring to safely use both medications. You should seek immediate medical attention if you experience severe abdominal pain, fever, chills, nausea, and/or vomiting during treatment with these medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
Drug and food interactions
PAZOPanib food
Applies to: Votrient (pazopanib)
Do not consume grapefruit or grapefruit juice during treatment with PAZOPanib unless directed otherwise by your doctor. Grapefruit juice can increase the blood levels of PAZOPanib, which may lead to an increased risk of serious side effects such as liver damage, irregular heart rhythm, bleeding, high blood pressure, heart attack, and stroke. Taking PAZOPanib with food can also significantly increase its absorption and levels in the blood. Therefore, you should take PAZOPanib on an empty stomach, at least one hour before or two hours after eating. Call your doctor immediately if you develop fever, chills, joint pain or swelling, unusual bleeding or bruising, skin rash, itching, loss of appetite, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, dark colored urine, and/or yellowing of the skin or eyes, as these may be signs and symptoms of liver damage. You should also seek immediate medical attention if you experience signs and symptoms that could indicate cardiovascular problems such as sudden dizziness; lightheadedness; fainting; fast or pounding heartbeats; chest pain or tightness; pain in your arms, back, neck, or jaw; shortness of breath; numbness or weakness on one side of your body; and slurred speech or difficulty speaking. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
erlotinib food
Applies to: erlotinib
Erlotinib should be taken on an empty stomach at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal and at the same time each day unless otherwise directed by your doctor. You should also avoid grapefruit and grapefruit juice while taking erlotinib. Food and grapefruit juice can increase the absorption of erlotinib from the gastrointestinal tract, which may lead to higher blood levels of the medication and possibly increased side effects. If you are a smoker, you should try to quit as soon as you can. Cigarette smoking can reduce the blood levels of erlotinib, which may make the medication less effective in treating your cancer. It is best to avoid smoking during erlotinib therapy. Talk to a healthcare professional if you have any questions or concerns. If you start smoking or undergo smoking cessation, your doctor may need to adjust your dose of erlotinib. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
