Interactions between your drugs

Major

DULoxetine eliglustat

Applies to: Cymbalta (duloxetine) and Cerdelga (eliglustat)

Before using eliglustat, you should have received a test to determine your CYP450 2D6 genotype, which lets the doctor know whether or not you can take the medication and at what dosage. Depending on your CYP450 2D6 genotype and what other medications you may be on, using eliglustat together with DULoxetine may not be recommended at all, or a dosage adjustment of eliglustat may be needed. Treatment with DULoxetine can significantly increase the blood levels of eliglustat. This may increase the risk of serious and potentially life-threatening cardiac side effects such as irregular heart rhythm, heart block, and cardiac arrest. Talk to your doctor if you have any questions or concerns. Your doctor may already be aware of the interaction, but has determined that this is the best course of treatment for you and has taken appropriate precautions and is monitoring you closely for any potential complications. You should seek immediate medical attention if you develop sudden dizziness, lightheadedness, fainting, shortness of breath, slow heart rate, weak pulse, or heart palpitations during treatment with eliglustat. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

Drug and food interactions

Major

eliglustat food

Applies to: Cerdelga (eliglustat)

Do not consume grapefruit or grapefruit juice during treatment with eliglustat unless directed otherwise by your doctor. Grapefruit juice can increase the blood levels of eliglustat to dangerous levels. This may increase the risk of serious and potentially life-threatening cardiac side effects such as irregular heart rhythm, heart block, and cardiac arrest. Talk to your doctor if you have any questions or concerns. You should seek immediate medical attention if you develop sudden dizziness, lightheadedness, fainting, shortness of breath, slow heart rate, weak pulse, or heart palpitations during treatment. Moderate

DULoxetine food

Applies to: Cymbalta (duloxetine)

DULoxetine may cause liver damage, and taking it with alcohol may increase that risk. You should avoid or limit the use of alcohol while being treated with DULoxetine. Call your doctor immediately if you have fever, chills, joint pain or swelling, excessive tiredness or weakness, unusual bleeding or bruising, skin rash or itching, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, dark colored urine, or yellowing of the skin or the whites of your eyes, as these may be symptoms of liver damage. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

Major Highly clinically significant. Avoid combinations; the risk of the interaction outweighs the benefit.
Moderate Moderately clinically significant. Usually avoid combinations; use it only under special circumstances.
Minor Minimally clinically significant. Minimize risk; assess risk and consider an alternative drug, take steps to circumvent the interaction risk and/or institute a monitoring plan.
Unknown No interaction information available.
