MONITOR: The concomitant administration of magnesium salts with other magnesium-containing preparations such as antacids or laxatives may increase the risk of magnesium toxicity, particularly in the presence of renal insufficiency. Magnesium toxicity may result in respiratory depression, neuromuscular depression, and heart block.
MANAGEMENT: Clinical and laboratory monitoring for signs of hypermagnesemia and magnesium toxicity is advisable, especially in high-risk patients (e.g., elderly or renally impaired patients).

bisacodyl magnesium carbonate
Applies to: LoSo Prep Bowel Cleansing System (bisacodyl / magnesium citrate) and calcium acetate / magnesium carbonate
Using bisacodyl together with magnesium carbonate may alter the effects of bisacodyl. Bisacodyl and magnesium carbonate should be separated by at least one hour. If your doctor does prescribe these medications together, you may need a dose adjustment or special test to safely use both medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
