Interactions between your drugs

Moderate

budesonide rivastigmine

Applies to: budesonide / formoterol and rivastigmine

Using budesonide together with rivastigmine may result in severe muscle weakness in patients with myasthenia gravis. If you have been receiving treatment with rivastigmine, you may experience increased muscle weakness when budesonide is first initiated. Improvement in muscular function may occur gradually. Talk to your doctor if you have any questions or concerns. Your doctor may discontinue rivastigmine at least one day before you start taking budesonide. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

Moderate

rivastigmine formoterol

Applies to: rivastigmine and budesonide / formoterol

Rivastigmine can occasionally cause slowing of the heart rate or other irregular heart rhythm, and combining it with medications like formoterol may increase that risk. Talk to your doctor if you have any questions or concerns. Your doctor may be able to prescribe alternatives that do not interact, or you may need a dose adjustment or more frequent monitoring to safely use both medications. Contact your doctor if you develop dizziness, lightheadedness, fainting, shortness of breath, chest pain, or heart palpitations during treatment. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

Minor

budesonide formoterol

Applies to: budesonide / formoterol and budesonide / formoterol

Information for this minor interaction is available on the professional version.

Drug and food interactions

Moderate

budesonide food

Applies to: budesonide / formoterol

You should avoid the regular consumption of large amounts of grapefruits and grapefruit juice while taking budesonide. Grapefruit can raise the levels of budesonide in your body and lead to increased side effects. Do not increase or decrease the amount of grapefruit products in your diet without first talking to your doctor.
