Drug Interactions between boceprevir and Cassipa

This report displays the potential drug interactions for the following 2 drugs:

Edit list (add/remove drugs)

Interactions between your drugs

Moderate

buprenorphine boceprevir

Applies to: Cassipa (buprenorphine / naloxone) and boceprevir

MONITOR: Coadministration with the hepatitis C virus NS3/4A protease inhibitor, boceprevir, may alter the plasma concentrations of methadone and buprenorphine. The interaction has not been specifically studied with boceprevir, but has been reported in patients receiving methadone and buprenorphine with HIV protease inhibitors. In some cases, plasma concentrations of the opioid are increased, while in others, plasma concentrations are decreased.

MANAGEMENT: Clinical monitoring is recommended if buprenorphine or methadone is used in combination with boceprevir.

Drug and food interactions

Major

buprenorphine food

Applies to: Cassipa (buprenorphine / naloxone)

GENERALLY AVOID: Alcohol may potentiate the central nervous system (CNS) depressant effects of opioid analgesics including buprenorphine. Concomitant use may result in additive CNS depression and impairment of judgment, thinking, and psychomotor skills. In more severe cases, hypotension, respiratory depression, profound sedation, coma, or even death may occur.

MANAGEMENT: Patients taking buprenorphine should not consume alcohol or use medications that contain alcohol on days of buprenorphine dosing. In general, potent narcotics such as buprenorphine should not be combined with alcohol.

Moderate

boceprevir food

Applies to: boceprevir

ADJUST DOSING INTERVAL: Food significantly enhances the oral bioavailability of boceprevir. When given at 800 mg three times daily with food, boceprevir exposure increased by up to 65% relative to administration in the fasting state. The bioavailability of boceprevir was similar regardless of meal type (e.g., high-fat versus low-fat) or whether taken 5 minutes prior to eating, during a meal, or immediately following completion of the meal. Therefore, boceprevir may be taken without regard to either meal type or timing of the meal.

MANAGEMENT: To ensure maximal oral absorption, boceprevir should be administered with a meal or light snack.

Drug Interaction Classification

These classifications are only a guideline. The relevance of a particular drug interaction to a specific individual is difficult to determine. Always consult your healthcare provider before starting or stopping any medication.
Major Highly clinically significant. Avoid combinations; the risk of the interaction outweighs the benefit.
Moderate Moderately clinically significant. Usually avoid combinations; use it only under special circumstances.
Minor Minimally clinically significant. Minimize risk; assess risk and consider an alternative drug, take steps to circumvent the interaction risk and/or institute a monitoring plan.
Unknown No interaction information available.
