Pronunciation: zi'los

Definition: An aldopentose, isomeric with ribose, obtained by fermentation or hydrolysis of naturally occurring carbohydrate substances, in wood fiber. An important dietary component for herbivores. The d-isomer is also known as wood or beechwood sugar.
