xanthoprotein reaction

 

Definition: A qualitative test for the presence of protein; when the substance under consideration is treated with hot, concentrated nitric acid, a positive result is indicated if a yellow product, xanthoprotein, is formed when protein is treated with hot concentrated nitric acid.
