Definition:

  1. a device for stabilizing teeth loosened by accident or by a periodontal condition in the maxilla or mandible.
  2. a device for reducing and stabilizing maxillary or mandibular fractures; it is applied to both jaws, with its two components connected by intermaxillary wires or rubber bands.
