Waterston shunt

Pronunciation: wa'ter-ston

Definition: creation of a narrow opening (about 3 mm) between the ascending aorta and the subjacent right pulmonary artery to increase pulmonary circulation in cyanotic heart disease with decreased pulmonary flow.
