trisomy 18 syndrome

 

Definition: a chromosomal disorder that is usually fatal within 2–3 years; characterized by mental retardation, abnormal skull shape, low-set and malformed ears, small mandible, cardiac defects, short sternum, diaphragmatic or inguinal hernia, Meckel diverticulum, abnormal flexion of fingers, and dermatoglyphic anomalies.

Synonym(s): Edwards syndrome
