transient aplastic crisis

 

Definition: temporary suppression of erythropoiesis, due usually to viral infection (e.g., Parvovirus B-19); may be particularly severe in people with hemolytic anemias (e.g., sickle cell disease, thalassemia, hereditary spherocytosis).
