Definition: An agonist at ?-aminobutyric acid (GABA) type A receptors. Unlike other agonists of this type, on systemic administration THIP penetrates the blood-brain barrier and is used as a pharmacologic tool to explore GABA receptor function in the brain and spinal cord.
