Definition: a surgical procedure in which one normal musculotendinous unit is detached from its insertion and reattached in a new location to restore the function and balance of a nonfunctioning musculotendinous unit (transfer of the superficial flexor of the ring finger to restore thumb adduction following medial nerve injury).
