ß-hydroxy-ß-methylglutaryl- synthase

 

Definition: an enzyme in mitochondria that catalyzes the reaction of acetyl-CoA with acetoacetyl-CoA and water to form (S)-ß-hydroxy-ß-methylglutaryl-CoA and coenzyme A, a step required for both ketogenesis and steroidogenesis to occur.
