superior mesenteric ganglion


Definition: an often paired prevertebral sympathetic ganglion located at the origin of the superior mesenteric artery from the aorta. The neurons composing the ganglion send postsynaptic fibers to the portions of the small and large intestines supplied by the superior mesenteric artery.
