Definition: origin, at the L1 vertebral level as the second anterior visceral branch of the abdominal aorta; branches, inferior pancreaticoduodenal, jejunal, ileal, ileocolic, appendicular, right colic, middle colic; anastomoses, superior pancreaticoduodenal and left colic.
