Strassburg test

Pronunciation: strahs'burg

Definition: an obsolete test for bile in the urine; albumin, if present, is precipitated, then cane sugar is added and filter paper is dipped in the fluid and dried; if bile pigments are present in the urine, sulfuric acid turns the filter paper a reddish violet.
