steroidogenic diabetes


Definition: abnormal glucose tolerance, often frank diabetes mellitus (q.v.), induced by the metabolic effects of adrenocortical steroid hormones such as cortisone or therapeutic analogues such as prednisone. The effect may be temporary, resolving when the steroid therapy is discontinued, or diabetes mellitus may persist.
