sleep paralysis


Definition: brief episodic loss of voluntary movement that occurs when falling asleep (hypnagogic sleep paralysis) or when awakening (hypnopompic sleep paralysis). One of the narcoleptic tetrad.

Synonym(s): sleep dissociation
