Schüffner dots

Pronunciation: shef'ner

Definition: fine, round, uniform red or red-yellow dots (as colored with Romanowsky stains) characteristically observed in erythrocytes infected with Plasmodium vivax and P. ovale, but not ordinarily found in P. malariae and P. falciparum infections.
