scaphoid fossa of sphenoid bone

 

Definition: a longitudinal hollow on the posterior surface of the superior portion (root) of the medial pterygoid plate; it gives origin to the tensor veli palati muscle.

Synonym(s): Cruveilhier fossa, fossa navicularis Cruveilhier, fossa scaphoidea ossis sphenoidalis
