Pronunciation: sal'i-sin

Definition: A glucoside of o-hydroxybenzylalcohol, obtained from the bark of several species of Salix (willow) and Populus (poplar); salicin is hydrolyzed to glucose and saligenin (salicyl alcohol); formerly used in rheumatoid arthritis.
