Definition: The principal insecticidal component of derris root, Derris elliptica, D. malaccensis, and other D. species, and from Lonchocarpus nicou (family Leguminosae); used externally for the treatment of scabies and infestation with chiggers, and in veterinary medicine for follicular mange and infestation with lice, fleas, and ticks; an inhibitor of the respiratory chain.
