Pronunciation: ris'to-se'tin

Definition: An antibiotic produced by the fermentation of Amycolatopsis orientalis lurida, comprising two substances; ristocetin A and ristocetin B; although no longer used, it causes platelet agglutination and blood coagulation and was used to assay those functions.
