Definition: A highly toxic lectin and hemagglutin that occurs in castor beans (the seeds of the castor oil plant, Ricinus communis; if ingested, acts as a violent irritant with possibly fatal results, on the respiratory and gastrointestinal mucosa; an N-glycosidase that acts on the GOS subunit of rRNA, halting protein translation.
