replacement therapy
Definition: therapy designed to compensate for a lack or deficiency arising from inadequate nutrition, from certain dysfunctions (glandular hyposecretion), or from losses (hemorrhage); replacement may be physiologic or may entail administration of a substitute (a synthetic estrogen in place of estradiol).
