posterior tibial recurrent artery

 

Definition: an inconstant branch of the posterior tibial artery (or occasionally of the anterior tibial artery), which ascends anterior to the popliteus muscle, anastomoses with branches of the popliteal artery, and sends a twig to the tibiofibular joint.
