pilocytic astrocytoma

 

Definition: a slowly growing astrocytoma composed histologically of elongated astrocytes; often located in the optic chiasm region of the third ventricle, hypothalamus, or cerebellum, predominantly in younger people.

Synonym(s): piloid astrocytoma
