phrenicoesophageal ligament


Definition: fascial expansion extending in a conelike manner from the margins of the esophageal hiatus of the diaphragm to the esophageal wall, with some fibers extending to the submucosa; it connects the diaphragm and esophagus, permitting some freedom of movement during swallowing and respiration while resisting hiatal herniation.
