pharyngoesophageal diverticulum


Definition: most common diverticulum of the esophagus; a pulsion diverticulum developing between the inferior pharyngeal constrictor and the cricopharyngeus muscle. May occur with dysphasia or foul-smelling breath in old people.

Synonym(s): hypopharyngeal diverticulum, Zenker diverticulum
