pharyngeal pituitary

 

Definition: the embryonic remnant of the oral end of the adenohypophysial diverticulum that is cut off from the adenohypophysis by the developing sphenoid bone; composed chiefly of chromophobes and, under normal conditions, considered physiologically inactive.
