Definition:

  1. That oxide of any series that contains the greatest number of oxygen atoms; applied most correctly to compounds containing an –O–O– link, as in hydrogen peroxide (H–O–O–H); a hydroperoxide is R–O–O–H.
  2. The O22- ion.
  3. Any member of a class of metallic oxides that contain the peroxide ion.
