Definition: This measurement is the ratio of the pulsatile blood flow (often graphically displayed by a plethysmograph) to the nonpulsatile blood flow in a patient's peripheral tissue, usually the patient's finger. This index correlates with capillary refill time and thus is an indicator of tissue blood perfusion.
