perforating veins



  1. the veins that accompany the perforating arteries from the profunda femoris artery; drain blood from the vastus lateralis and hamstring muscles and terminate in the profunda femoris vein.
  2. valved communicating veins that drain superficial veins—especially those of the lower limb—into deep (subfascial) veins so that the musculovenous pump can propel the venous blood to the heart against gravity.
