paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinemia


Definition: an acquired hematopoietic stem cell disorder characterized by formation of defective platelets, granulocytes, erythrocytes, and possibly lymphocytes. The red blood cell abnormality causes complement-mediated intravascular lysis, which may be expressed in an irregular or even occult manner.
