outer stripes of renal medulla

 

Definition: the more superficial or more peripheral portion of the outer medulla of the kidney, recognizable on sagittal section through the pyramid of a fresh specimen; it is structurally distinct from the outer stripe in that it is traversed only by thick portions (limbs) of nephron tubules.
