Definition: a phosphoribosyltransferase synthesizing orotidylate and pyrophosphate from orotate and 5-phospho-a-d-ribosyl-1-pyrophosphate; this enzyme is a part of pyrimidine biosynthesis; a deficiency of this enzyme is associated with orotic aciduria type I.
