Definition: suboccipital muscle that, despite its name, has no attachment to the cranium; origin, spinous process of axis; insertion, transverse process of the atlas; action, rotates head; origin, spinous process of axis; insertion, transverse process of the atlas; nerve supply, suboccipital.
