Pronunciation: mik'so-vi'rus

Definition: Term formerly used for viruses with an affinity for mucins, now included in the families Orthomyxoviridae and Paramyxoviridae. The myxoviruses included influenza virus, parainfluenza virus, respiratory syncytial virus, measles virus, and mumps virus.
