Pronunciation: mi'o-vir'i-de

Definition: A family of relatively large bacterial viruses with complex contractile tails, heads that are usually elongated but are isometric in some species, and a double-stranded DNA genome (MW 21–190 × 106). It includes the T-even phage group and probably other genera.
