Mycobacterium intracellulare

 

Definition: a bacterial species found in lung lesions and sputum of humans; may cause bone and tendon-sheath lesions in rabbits; some strains are pathogenic for mice. Recently linked to opportunistic infections in humans.

Synonym(s): Battey bacillus
