Mycobacterium chelonae

 

Definition: rapid-growing mycobacterium (Runyon group IV) that causes sporadic infection in any tissue or organ system in humans following cardiothoracic surgery, peritoneal dialysis, hemodialysis, augmentation mammoplasty, arthroplasty, and immunocompromised patients.
